Brief Summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Open Science are worlds apart: on one side, complex algorithms and advanced technologies; on the other, data transparency and sharing. Yet together, they have the potential to transform scientific research radically. This talk will explore how AI and Open Science, despite their differences, are joining forces to democratise access to knowledge, accelerate innovation, and promote more open, ethical, and inclusive research. It was an unexpected alliance, but one with revolutionary potential.
Who will speak
Elena Giglia (moderator): Head of the Open Access Unit at the University of Turin. She is actively involved in national and international working groups on Open Science and is a partner in several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects. Elena has been part of the committee that drafted the National Plan for Open Science in Italy and has participated in national and international conferences on various aspects of Open Science, including evaluation, and regularly provides training and outreach on these topics.
Stefano Diciotti (Speaker): Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bologna and Executive Scientific Coordinator for “AI for Health and Well-being” at the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. His primary research areas include Computational Biomedical Imaging and AI for Medicine, with a particular focus on lung and neurological diseases. He currently leads Spoke 2 (Intelligent Health) within the PNRR project “Extended Partnership (PE) 6” - Precision Medicine - HEAL ITALIA.
Who should attend?
The webinar is designed for the Italian community and is aimed at researchers, research support staff, technicians, and technologists interested in learning about topics related to open science and FAIR principles.
