How can we strengthen support for the FAIR management of research data and develop a culture of Open Science within a university? There is no single answer. The University of Bologna has taken up this challenge and, after including these objectives in its strategic plan for the 2022-2027 period, has launched a project called "Data Steward@Unibo," experimenting with a possible way to support researchers and strengthen awareness of correct research data management.
The first step was to employ professionals, "data stewards," who are experts in various research domains, experienced in FAIR data management and Open Science issues. The talk aims to share the project's objectives and actions, present the first results of this experience, and prospects.
Agenda
14:30 - 14:40 Link opening and welcome by Valentina Pasquale
14:40 - 15:10 Presentation by Francesca Masini and Giulia Caldoni
15:10 - 15:30 Q&A/Discussion
Who will speak
Valentina Pasquale: works as a "Research Data Management Specialist" at the Italian Institute of Technology, where she coordinates support services for research data management and Open Science. She coordinates the GO FAIR Data Stewardship Competence Centers Implementation Network. Before working with research data, she obtained a PhD in "Humanoid Technologies" from the University of Genoa in 2010 and worked for several years in Computational Neuroscience.
Francesca Masini: Associate Professor of Linguistics at the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Modern Cultures of the University of Bologna and Delegate of the Rector for Open Science and Research Data. In this role, she promotes initiatives for open access to knowledge generated at the University, through the creation of awareness-raising and support paths for researchers on open access, FAIR data, and co-creation, and the participation of the University in national and international networks.
Giulia Caldoni: is a biologist with several years of experience as a researcher in the field of cell and molecular biology, now part of the new team of Data Stewards at the University of Bologna. Her Data Steward activity focuses on managing biomedical/clinical data, through the support and promotion of FAIR data management practices during the entire research life cycle.
Who should attend?
The webinar is intended for the Italian community and is aimed at researchers, research support staff, technicians, and technologists interested in learning about Open Science and FAIR principles.
